Noosa Heads, Queensland
Edit - The Noosa Heads Pie shop has closed!
July 2024.
OK, so we get to live in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. But every now and then, the weather gods stop smiling, and perhaps smirk for a little while. The temperature might even briefly drop below 20 degrees celsius...
So what better to do on a cold day...than have a pie! Let's face it, we've been derelict in not sampling the local fare until now anyway.
It doesn't matter who you are, it's going to be hard not to find something you like about Noosa. The holiday and surf mecca 130km north of Brisbane has been a favourite destination since the 1890s. I remember coming here on holidays as a kid, driving for 2 days facing backwards in the old Volvo station wagon with my sister. I'm still only just over the travel sickness...
Noosa is truly spectacular, and if you've never done the walk through Noosa National Park to see the mighty Pacific Ocean pound into 100ft of sheer granite at Hell's Gates, then you've missed a special part of the world. Main Beach along Hastings Street is one of the most idyllic I've been to, and if you can't get in the water there, you're hydrophobic.
And, Jeff and I get to live here.
So today we're off to the "World Famous Noosa Pie Shop". We're not the only ones chasing a warming little parcel of goodness either. Jen and Kyle are out front - Jen is on her first trip to Australia, coming all the way from a little town in Utah, USA, and is about to sink her teeth into her first ever pie. Kyle's a local and talks her through the important step of saucing a hot pie, before watching her first bite with some amusement as the crust collapses.
It's a touch fresh outside so we're both in need of some warming comfort food. JA takes the Lamb and Vege, while I'm going for the Butter Chicken and Jasmine Rice.
Jeff's review : Overall, good to try something new. Tasty, including (with some degree of shock) the vegetables, with perfect sauce consistency and temperature. 4.5 Oslers out of 5!
Todd's review : Who knew you could have one favorite meal inside another favourite meal? Great taste and huge chunks of chicken. Lost points because it was slightly cool, and could have done with a bigger "kick". Osler Pie Score : 4.0/5
